How can you tell it is not merdaria?

How do we tell them apart?

I'm still not sure about this: http://diptera.in...d_id=28805

Merdaria has a dark spot where the arista joins the antennae. On this photo one side has no dark mark but the other does...maybe a photo artifact.
So if you are nit-picking...it could be either.

Regards Roger...The non-nitpicker

Edit; Tossed a coin...the side without the dark spot won....so merdiaria :P

A second picture for further determination. The back of this fly is not orange.

Well at least I managed to dig out the thread from going into the profile of AVT from the photo in the Gallery...and now we know the difference. Not that it matters much to me as we don't get them here....:|
