Hi,
Today I was searching for
Bibio males but found a
Dilophus instead. Can
D. febrilis be confirmed, or are there other similar species around Berlin?
Thanks for help, Sundew

Meanwhile I saw several
Dilophus febrilis females in the same place, so I suppose the male is the same species.

Opposite to the Bibio-situation, in Dilophus it is the females that are most easily identified. So please show a pic of a female. Males are never Idalbe from pic.
In any case, given time of year it must be febrilis.
Femoratus and possibly humeralis are to be excepted around Berlin, especially in sandy areas.
But local and rare

Many thanks, Theo! The females of
D. febrilis I know for sure, but even if they sit on the leaf next to the one the male sits on, one cannot say if they would really make the matching couple... So I have to wait for a copulating couple to be on the safe side. However, no luck at the moment!
