I am pretty sure it is a male
M. speciosa, but only Irina Brake could confirm this, she's the expert.

I agree with Stephane, it is a
Milichia speciosa male, see
http://milichiida...a-speciosa. Was it photographed in Romania?

Hi Alexaandru. The specimens I have seen are all from May/June. The species has been previously recorded from Romania. Did you see the specimens near one Sambucus nigra or several? And were there many aphids and/or ants on the Sambucus? The biology of the species is unknown. We only now that it is swarming, and has been collected on Apiaceae and Artemisia campestris and "running on branch of Acer campestre which was beset with aphids". It is probably myrmecophilous like many other Milichia species. Maybe you can find out some more next May :)

Hi Irina, i saw all the specimens near 2 or 3 Sambucus nigra, flying from one leaf to another, and sometimes moving the wings pretty slow. And are many aphids and ants on Sambucus. If you need, I will looking for the original photo, here is only a crop...And I hope next year to find again and study this interesting fly :)
