I have found interesting paper on taxonomic position of
Drosophila melanogaster http://www.nature.com/news/2010/100407/full/464825a.html I didn't know previously about such problems with
D. melagoaster. For me this opinion of geneticists and their petition are strange. Do any of you know situation when International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature has changed type species like in this case? Personally I think that commission did it right saving
D. funebris as a type species.
D. melanogaster
is some kind of celebrity, as it was written, but taxonomic rules are more important I think.
