HI!
It is my turn to ask for help. I do not as a rule take Tipulids (sensu lato), but every now and then I collect some, just to get a feeling for the various families. As far as I can tell - which is not far at all - this is a species of Symplecta. Can anybody tell me which species? Collected from a streamside, late July, southern Finland.

Hi Kahis
The additional cross-vein connecting R3 and R4 suggests
Symplecta hybrida, but I don't have a specimen or figure to check the genitalia. They look similar to, but certainly different from
S. stictica.

Hi.
A send photo and the abdomen in alcohol to Jukka Salmela, a finnish expert on Limonidae. His comment: probably
S. chosenensis (Alex.), new for northern Europe!:o We are now working to confirm this record.

it is on the GB list, Peter's illustration certainly looks like photo of terminalia
Chandler, P. & R. Crossley, 2003, Symplecta chosenensis (Alexander, 1940) (Diptera, Limoniidae) new to Britain, with comments on the status of S. scotica (Edwards, 1938). Dip. Dig. 10(1)
