Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Ephydridae Limnellia sp.

Hi!

I thought this could be Limnellia fallax after seeing another post. I had marked it as Limnellia quadrata, I don't think the halteres can be seen sufficiently but maybe there are other differences. This looks like it could be a male.

Taken on 23rd October 2009 near the base of my south facing wall, with poor grass on sandy soil. 2 pics.

Location near Lincoln UK.

I also got one pic of another nearly 3 hours earlier which could be the female and does show the haltere, back view only. I am posting that one here too.

This is the one I took earlier on the same day, looks like a female. Looking closer I think it's the same as the other species I had in the same place, which has yellow on the legs. Ihave a lot of pics of that so will post them on another thread.

Top two pics are Limnellia quadrata - probably a male. The bottom pic is Philygria interstincta.
