Hi

I got a small sample from Costa Rica mostly containing Tabanids. But this one is amazing. See the bucal apparatus. This is familiar to me but at the moment I do not know what this can be. I thought in Somatiidae... but this maybe could be a Micropezidae... and hence no new family for DI...
I took these photos today.

Data:

Local: Puntarenas 24 km W Chacarita.
Date: 18-21.II.2009
Leg: Brown and Porras
Method: Malaise trap
Size: medium (about 6 mm)

Yes, Andrzej I saw it a few moments ago. It is very probable to be Micropezidae. Wing venation fits, also for the long ovipositor. grrrr..

Jorge -- definitely Micropezidae. Wait a couple of months for vol. 2!

Yep. I'm eager to see the next volume also because of the tachinids.
