Hi,

as I don't find picture of Tanyptera nigricornis, can this one be one ? I got some Tanyptera atrata but just one of this kind of black male. June 25.2009 Loviisa, Finland.

Yes, thank You. I have the key and that's what makes me wonder... trochanter of this black one is clearly orange :| Maybe it's just some kind of mutant :)

In my experience, what is supposed to be T. atrata according to Oosterbroek is extremely variable and I have difficulty to believe it really is only 1 species.
Not being an expert, though.

Savtchenko also indicates that T. atrata is variable in coloration. Still yellowish trochanters seem to be stable character separating it from T.nigricornis.

Hi all!

Well, never trust in colors....
Anyway, you have males: is there any difference or congruence with genital figs. 48/49? Is your bright specimen (other thread) in this respect different?

I did send Jukka a mail with the pictures yesterday :) So this should be the normal colour for male atrata and this one should then be the female. June 26.2009 Loviisa, Finland.
