Hi,
I live in the UK, nothern part Yorkshire, this was seen and photgraphed in a coniferous clearing and as you can see was feeding on thistle flowers.
Can you identify it? Is it a fly or a bee?

Thank you

Tim

Hi Tim.
It is fly from Tachinidae family, I think genus Tachina.
Looks like Tachina grossa, but it has to have brown calypter, your fly has yellow.
Soon Chris will give you precise answer.

Definitely Tachina grossa :D

If you can give me the data (date, grid-reference, recorder's name, location name etc) I will add it to our database :)
