I found this yesterday resting on a leaf. I think it's flavipes, but at 10mm is it too big, or too late? The book says up to 9mm and flying until September. NW England.

It is a female flavipes indeed.
Length between 6,5-10 mm. In the Netherlands its flying period is end of june till halfway october.

Thanks Andre. Perhaps the flying period given in Stubbs and Drake is conservatively based only on verified capture dates, and the 9mm limit may be based on specimens that have shrunk. (I think there is a warning to this effect somewhere in the introduction.) I'll try to remember to take this into account next time!

Stephen.
