Nice!!
I't seems to be in Eristalinae, and I think it could be a species of Phytomia, but I'll have to check!

It is the genus Senaspis, but I am not sure about the species...

Dirickx mentions four species from Madagascar: S. apophysata (Bezzi), flaviceps Macquart, haemorrhoa (Gerstaecker) and nigrita (Bigot), this one decribed from and apparently common on the island.

H.G. Dirickx, 1998, Catalogue synonymique et Géografique des Syrphidae (Diptera) de la Région Afrotropicale.

After asking an expert on African Syrphids (Axel Ssymank) he came up with the following name: Senaspis nigrita (Bigot, 1859).
He also asks whether the picture could be used in a forthcoming paper about African syrphids.
If you agree, I'll bring him in contact with you so you can talk about details, okay?
