Hello,

In July this year I caught a male Merodon in southern Germany with a combination of characters I can not find in van Veen 2004:

-legs completely black, only knees leg 1 and 2 pale,
-small, 9,5mm,
-tegites completely unmarked,
-trochander 3 without protuberance.

I do not have a proper macro lens, so the pictures are poor, but I hope they still will help.

Anybody any idea?

Sander

If you found it in the mountains, it is right that Van Veen doesn't mention it because the book doesn't cover the Alpine area.
I don't know this species... would need it to make any ID..
Hope someone else here can help you based on a picture!

I caught it some 100 km north of the alps.
On the forum of waarneming.nl I met Gerard Pennards who is willing to identify the ones I cann't. So I hope that somewhere during upcoming winter this fly gets a species name....

greetings,

Sander
