Hi,

this large fly (12mm) was on the way to Sarcophagidae box but when it has a large subscutellum it made me wonder .... July 26.2009 Pernaja, Finland.

Estheria would be my guess :) They are horrible sarcophagid mimics but they have that wonderful "moustache" of hairs around the vibrissae :)

Well then we have only one species, petiolata and I think it may be a good one :)

So, the topcel is shortly stalked ?

Yes, then it is Estheria petiolata

Yes, that is stalked ... not much, but it does qualify. The worst ones are species which are even shorter than that and it's almost impossible to work out if it is closed or stalked ;) Thankfully the keys usually make allowance for that :)

Ok, thank's Chris. I was just a bit uncertain. Because this is so called "good one" I wanted to be sure :)
