Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Tephritidae Rhagoletis ? Which one?

Hi

Tephritidae Rhagoletis ?
I could'n find this one in the gallery.

This red "thing" on its back is it a parasite?

Size: very small, about 4-5 mm
Date: 10. June 2009
Location: Switzerland, peripheral area of a nature reserve

BTW, U're not alone: Fabricius (1792) also misidentified this fly as "Musca cerasi L." (common cherry fruit fly) - and this mistake was continued by many other dipterists until the middle of XIX century....

The 2 next specialists who started their career in dipterology from misidentification this species as a fruitfly and trying to run through the key were myself and then, in 10 years Bernhard Merz...
