hi,
I know that this angle is not the best to identify an insect. As chance would have it after the 2nd click the fly passed away but left me with a detailed hires shot, attached as link at the end of this entry.
location: munich, germany -> parkway
size was aprox 7,5mm
the 3 stripes was very narrow I assume because of the long and hard winter ?
In general there aren't many syrphids this years compared to 2008

After the rainshower I went back to the place. This time i couldn't get very close. Hope this picture helps.

Here I found one with a slight different pattern (looks like Episyrphus belteatus) but same place.
