21 july 2005. At my place (of course, all pictures are), 40 km northwest Stockholm, Sweden. A female received attention from a male. Size approximately 10 mm.

Who are they, with their dark markings on the wings, and the dark legs with light knees?

Hey Amaira,
It's a pair of Eristalis anthophorina!
Nice pictures!

Well, if they were in Britain I would say Eristalis intricarius however I don't know if there are similar spp. to consider in Sweden.

Thankyou Gerard, and thankyou both Gerard and Tim for your answers.

I thought I knew E. intricarius. But it seams to be in another colourform. I think you are right, Tim ...

No.it really is a pair of E. anthophorina!
Like Tim said, if we were in Britain...., but we're not!
In the North we have 2 look a likes (E. anthophorina and E. fratercula), and this is E. anthophorina!
Greetings,

If I'd seen Gerard's reply before I posted mine I would have held back. But at least I've learned something, and not just to keep clear of subjects of which I know little! Thanks guys.
