this rather big syrphid (i hope) was flying around at about 2000 m elevation in the Sierra Nevada, southern spain (2008-08-16). i don't really remember, but think i should be about 1 cm long. to me it looks like it it's unusual enough to be identified, but then again, what do i know about flies? :)

Hi Safero.
It's not a Syrphidae, but a Bombyliidae, Villa sp. Maybe you'll get a more detailed iD in the diptera main forum.
