I think this is a Sciomyzidae with very dark wings. Any suggestions for ID?

May be Pelidnoptera = Phaeomyia?

Pelidnoptera, yes, but we need at least a close up of the wing (R1 with setulae or not) and of tibia 2 to confirm species.

looks like Pelidnoptera nigipennis - not uncommon in upland British isles

Thanks Iain, Paul and Nikita. I will go straight to Pelidnoptera in Roskozny's key and confirm species.

This forum ie excellent for assisting in the ID of families that one is not familiar with. A really valuable resource.

I have checked vein R1 for setae and confirm that this is Pelidnoptera fuscipennis. One for the Sciomyzidae gallery?
