Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Pinned Pipizella viduata male, Syrphidae

Hi, I'm a bit lost with this 7mm hairy fellow. I have not been concentrating too much to Syrphidae so any hint for genus? May 31.2009 Loviisa, Finland.

It is a
Pipizella male. For identification, you need to have a good view on the genitalia. For that, you must pull it out a little. If you do that carefully, it can stay attached on the tip of the abdomen.

Would have been my guess too. Has also been our only
Pipizella-species caught on our trip through Finland in 2003.
But you have to practise on your photography :P
