I found this Strophosoma melanogrammum when I was out on a walk last weekend. Nothing strange as I have seen this species many times. But this one has somthing on its snout. A wart? Or what? Can anyone shed some light?

These are interesting larvae: they're attached to the host via an appendage coming out from their anus - hence the name ('Uro' 'pes'=leg). This can be quite long.
