Hi

This fly was spotted in Saladas de Monegros - SPAIN - in final August 2008. This is one of the most spectacular muscids I've seen. ANy hints of what this could be?
Size about 7 mm - 8 mm.

Thanks!

it was my first thought as well. If Lispe this must be a new one...

there are two Lispes in Monegros:

Lispe leucospila (Wiedemann, 1830) - maybe this one??

Lispe tentaculata (De Geer, 1776)

I'd say Lispe caesia.

I must add a very conspicuous feature that is not visible in tehse photos. There are subtriangular spots in tergites 3 and 4. :)

it is very common in saladas in final summer... ;) But it is not easy to catch them. Extremely quick and nervous!

I'd say Lispe caesia.

And I was wrong... This ID bothered me during long time.
It is female of Lispe candicans Kowarz
