This came into our kitchen today.

Near T?bingen (SW Germany), size 17 mm. The eyes under daylight are brown with a dark horizontal stripe (the fotos were taken with flash). The specimen was dead when fotos were taken.

I think it is a Tabanus spec. Any more detailed information possible?

Yes, Tabanus bromius, the most common species.

Actually, the eye colouration in flash light approaches the reallife eye colouration quite reasonably.
