After a looooong absence (survival is keeping me away from the things I care about), here I am with this tiny white tailed fly photographed yesterday in mixed woodland near a torrent. Sorry for the quality of the photo, there was pratically no light and the little creature was never still for a moment, continually running up and down the leaf and flapping its wings. Can anyone help me?

Near Rome, Italy. 4/5 mm.

With grateful thanks and I do hope to be back with you in full form before long, Sarah

As far as I can tell most of these small critters with 'silver' or 'white' abdomen belong to Milichia or Milichiella (family Milichiidae). Based on the faint wing patter I would say Milichia speciosa.
