Saül is a magnificent wilderness area. In the center of French Guiana, it's a Dipterist's paradise. If you can, do it.

French Guiana as a whole is brilliant - even just inland from the well-developed coastal strip. I went there in 2000 (see following photos) and it was superb - very comfortable hotels, SUV hire cars with air-con etc, primary forest within a short drive, lots of secondary habitats. The only problem is that it is quite expensive because everything is imported.
I dunno who this young chap might be :D

Can I volunteer to be the diptera.info representative? You can send me out there (all expenses paid) and I promise to collect everything I see with 2 wings and then send them back to whoever wants ;)
I will even provide my own Malaise trap, nets and specimen bottles :D

you still need someone to photograph the specimens :D ehehe
Hence we should reserve a big airplane. :D I wish ryanair could give special promotions and add this route for all dipteran lovers. :D

I think
these guys probably got loads of Diptera from French Guiana they would like to have sorted out. At least they're also working with malaise traps... Anyone interested might try to contact them I suppose.
Best regards,
