Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Calliphora vomitoria?

Hi all,

Sorry, really poor pic but the only one I have got. Could this be anything other than Calliphora vomitoria?

Taken on 11th April. My garden near Lincoln UK.

Yes.

I don't see a red beard, so I'm quite confident it is NOT vomitoria.

Thank you once more Theo, I can't see red hairs either, even if I lighten it well. They look nearly white, but still in Calliphoridae? :| :)

I'm pretty sure it is in Calliphora genus, so vicina is obviously the most likely candidate.
IDing Calliphora is rather complicated and the picture and the angle are simply insufficient to be sure (in my opinion).
I know it's hard to get different angles of the same fly...

Thanks again Theo! I think this one I will just call a Calliphora sp., with a 'likely' C. vicina note. Yes, very difficult if the fly flies away! :D
