Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Large Calliphora (non-vicina?)

Hello!

Any chance to tell from these angles, whether this is not Calliphora vicina? It was very large (13-14 mm) and dark. Found today in our wintergarden (northwest Germany).

I thought even from these unfavourable angles there should be visible some parts of the more yellowish face (???).

I think it is likely to be vicina. Size isn't really relevant in distinguishing the species of Calliphora. It seems to me to have a reddish face in the second image, and the white borders of the calypters seem quite broad. It is probably one of those vicina with a dull coloured anterior spiracle and relatively dark tegula and wing bases.

Impossble to say.
Could be vicina, could be loewi.
