With an extreme large oculair triangel this little fly is strongly resembling Oscinella species-[Cloropidae] as presented on this website.

The species seem to be very common on rather wet grasland, where i found it on the top of grasses. 14-aug-2008, De Wieden-Netherlands. size 2,5 mm.

Is it possible to tell witch species it is?
just 7 species in Holland!

At 13 september in the same meadow a copula of (probably) the same species.
male 2,1 mm, female 2,9 mm

Perhaps it gives ability for further id.!

Oscinella sp are so similar that only genitalial investigation of males gives you a definite answer. Most females are indeterminable. The host plant may also give you a clue.
