Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Dung Fly?

Photographed May 18, near Chicago IL USA. This fly was hanging out on some type of fungus - mushrooms? Thanks for any help.

Hello Bruce,

This is a species of Suillia, family Heleomyzidae. They are found on many kinds of decaying organic matter, both of plants and animals. So you can find them near compost, rotting fungi, dung, carrion, etc.
