Picture made on May 05, 2006, Naro-Fominsk, Moscow region, Russia.
Very damp habitat with Alnus/Salix/Populus tremula, covered with water from melted snow just a few days ago. Now the place is teeming with Tetrix grasshoppers which were my main subjects this morning.
Size 5-6mm I believe.

Hi Susan,
Looks more like Heleomyzidae. If so, Andrzej will respond I think.

Hi Jan, I hope so !. It is a female but after the picture I am not sure to which genus does it belong. It is really dificcult to say what fly is it.
Maybe a representative of Neoleria species.

Thanks Jan and Andrzej,
Is this one a close relative of the first fly?
