Hello Flyforum,
On some white flowers I saw some Empis sp.
I only know them from books and the internet, so it was nice to see these flies alive! ;)
The backbody of the Empis flies were different, I think it has to do with male and female...(?)
And last but not least.., what kind of Empis sp. are these?
size ~10-12mm

it is the male from above (see picture 1)

This is
Empis trigramma, not uncommon in the Netherlands. The first image is a male (the shape of the male genitalia is characteristic), the second and third are females. Especially in the third image the three dorsal tripes (tri-gramma) are clear. Often found on... umbels.
