Hi, what can this black fly be ? A Clusiidae ? August 10. 2008 Helsinki, Finland.

Why ?
It is either Ch. leptogaster or Ch. nova, those are very similar and I never found nova.
But why is leptogaster strange ?

Don't worry, strange things happen all the time for dipterologists :)
Theo: He's probably referring to the fact that this species (leptogaster) has to date only been found on the ?land Islands, not mainland Finland. But why not; the host plants grows here and the climate is only slightly colder on the coast.
C. nova has not yet been found in Finland.

Hi, yes that is the reason. Allways when I find something strange I look for the distribution maps. If the species is found only from Lappland or ?land Islands the bell is ringing telling me to re-check the specimen. So that's why :D
