I would appreciate advice from Forum members about desirable
specifications for a stereo microscope and a
fibre-optic illumination system for studying Diptera, i.e. from small midges (Ceratopogonidae, Chironomidae, etc) to large flies (Calliphoridae, Sarcophagidae, Tachinidae, etc).
Thanks,
James

You may have to bite the bullet and think about two non-overlapping ststems, one for flies mounted on slides (such as chironomids) and the other for pinned material. My experience is that the two are not compatible. Alternatively, you could give up chironomids as a bad job ! You might like to contact GT Vision in Haverhill (gt-vision.com) which is where I got mine, even shipped to France is was not fiercely expensive. They have a wide variety to suit all tastes and pockets, with fibreoptic light sources too.
