I just cannot key this Platypezidae out, so I must be making a fundamental mistake somewhere. To help me along, can anyone say which genus this fly is? Male and female featured - both emerged from some fungus I have kept.

Emerged 20 July 2008. Shropshire, UK (fungus collected in May 08).

Looks like Seri obscuripennis to me.

PS: Was the fungus some Polyporus?

Hello Michal,
Yes, you are absolutely correct. I did eventually manage to determine this one and it was indeed Seri obscuripennis. Over thirty individuals emerged from a single Polyporus badius fruit body.
