Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Coenosia (=Chamaemyia sp.)

Hi, there are lot of these small grey flies in my malaise at the moment. Six dark spots on dorsal side of abdomen. Are they maybe Coenosia ? Loviisa, Southern Finland today.

It is Chamaemyia, Chamaemyiidae

Not really. Many, very similar species that can only be identified on the basis of male genitalia. Maybe Steve gaimari can help out a little...

Paul is right - these things are unidentifiable without genitalic dissection. I'm afraid I can be of no further help but to say that it is one of the species with spots on the abdomen! (as opposed to none or full bands).

Ok, thank You so much anyway :) Maybe some day I must start that genitalia preparation. Many mysteries will be solved then :o
