Hallo
I know I've taken the pictire today 17.4.2006 near the Lake of Thun, Kanton Bern, Switzerland. Ithink it is a syrphide, male and I guess: Cheilosia chrysocoma. Could that be?
Thanks for helping and greetings Maja

Cheilosia yes, but not chrysocoma. that species is even more reddish than this with longer hair on the abdomen. This is a male of Cheilosia albipila, a species you can find in early spring.
greetings, Gerard

Thank you for the quick answer. So the rather red colour of the antenna is explained. Strange is that albipila is described as very rare in my list of Swiss Syrphides, but the list is very old, may be thats why.
