Hi,
Today I saw a Sicus on a Cirsium arvense floret. Is a species ID possible? Which characters are decisive?
Many thanks, Sundew

Thanks, but where and what is the theca? (I know what it is in botany, a half of an anther, but conopids are very different! :D)
I'll better wait for Jens-Hermann...
Cheers, Sundew

Yes, it is a female Sicus ferrugineus. You can recognise the females of the species easily by the form of the elongated abdomen and the not protuding theca.
