Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Tachinidae?

I'm a real beginner at this so the proposed family may be way off. The photo was taken in Sept, 2006, in my window, near Xico, state of Veracruz, Mexico (19 deg N, 3800 ft elevation). Size, just a guess since I am going by memory, about 1 cm. farm1.static.flickr.com/96/241874656_01a6ae26d1_o.jpg (the picture is from my flickr site, and my avatar here is clipped from it)

Tachinidae is correct. Maybe someone else can say more.

It's a very nice tachinid but I don't know many people that would risk giving a name to neotropical species - the fauna is too diverse and too little-studdied. Your best chance is to contact Monty Wood or Jim O'Hara in Canada (emails available if you PM me). Both are experts on the North American tachinids and Monty is working on a key to Costa Rican genera, so he might be able to give you some idea :)
