Following up on the Empis tesselatta ID earlier,
could this be a male E. tesselata?

Found in a very battered condition in East Lincs, UK on 02 Jun 2008.
Three images follow. Background is 2mm grid.
Is the proboscis extendable?
The length looks different in images 1 and 3.
