Hello all,
Looking up some recent messages on the forum, I seem to recognize Ernestia rudis in this fly found on May 22 2008 (?)
Bois de Lauzelle (a beech forest) Louvain la neuve, Belgium;
Size 10 mm approx.
Thanks for your help
Philippe

No.

It is a male Blepharipa pratensis. Pity we can't see the comb on tibia 3.
See recent post from The Netherlands on this species.

Thanks Theo. I'll dig in my files to try and find a picture showing tibia 3.
Is this species territorial - males at least ? It kept coming back to the same spot, and was there again at the exact same place when I visited three days later (well, assuming it was the same individual)

Cheers
Philippe

A cameraman's dream, so to speak.

INteresting.
I once so a male Bl. schineri, related species, even hovering.
Which is quite unusual in Tachinidae.
