I can't key this small Tachinindae satisfactorily. About 5mm length. Edge of woodland, 24 May, UK. Any suggestions? It has 4-5 median marginals on each of abdominal segs 3 and 4. Four antero-dorsal bristles on middle tibia, orange palpi, hairs around upper part of parafacial area (none on lower part), crossed apical scutellar bristles (they are much smaller than the neighbouring scutellar marginals).

Hard to say Nigel - I have run it through as much of the key as I can and I can't get anywhere. I have also tried it in the software key and if fizzles out too. It really needs closer examinaton (or Theo ;) - but I'd certainly look at it if you want to get it to me somehow :)

Hi Chris - it's an awkward little blighter! If Theo can't suggest anything, I'll send it to you.

I can't see all the details, but first gut feeling is that of a female Lypha dubia.
So try if you can get there with Belshaw.
