Thread subject: Diptera.info :: is this a common house fly?

Taken sitting on a fence post in the sun in south east england beginning of may. a cluster of them were in the same place and were just sitting.

is it a Polietes lardarius? the picture in my woefully lame beginners book isnt very big or clear :|

Hello!

From what is visible and from your description of the behaviour I would say, this is a Musca autumnalis male.

I think M autumnalis is called Face Fly in English.
