Hello,

this Tabanidae ist from May 14 in our tyrolian garden (900 m a.s.l.). I gess, it's a Hybomitra sp. Is anyone here, who can identify this gad-fly? The 2nd image shows the eyes.

Thanks and servus from Tyrol

It is indeed a Hybomitra, a male.

Difficult genus, so I can't make out the species from these pics.
So let's get dirty: the earliest species is H. lurida.
If the palps are extremely short and swollen, that's your guy.
