dear Dipterists,
last weekend I captured 2 adult female Simuliidae along the bank of river Daugava near Riga, Latvia. one actually bit us. the river is dammed and at locality, hardly flowing. however, along the shoreline (glycera maxima, phragmites) there was quite some helocrene-like seepage. might this be the origin of these Simuliidae? I know Simuliidae only from flowing waters but not from seepage ponds. Is there anyone interested in identifying these midges, or is there anyone with a clue to possible species? so far, no photo available yet. best wishes and thankx, David
