Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Stratiomyidae, Odontomyia discolor from Greece

Hi,

another fly from Grrece (last one for now).
it is a Stratiomyid found in a we area south of Athena (not far from sea).
a lot of them resting before the sunset on grass. (some collected).
size ~7mm

can be IDed?

Odontomyia sp., I would say out of the blue. Good that you collect as well :)

thank you Andre,

i was thinking to this when looking thru the gallery.
specially on Odontomyia ornata but this have much more longer antenna.

maybe someone will come with more.

With the hairy eyes and the nearly invisible scutellar spines and the typical abdominal pattern, I would vote for Odontomyia discolor.

thanks Martin,

i will change the title. is some character is needed for a definitive ID just le me know. some exemplary where collected so...
also i will add this two photos to the gallery (this species is not yet there).
