Dear forum,

I took these pictures of this rather big fly - ~12 mm - today in my garden.
Is Tachinidae correct and can it be further identified?

Best regards, Niek

It's not a tachinid - try Sarcophagidae ;) Possibly Sarcophaga (sens-lat). The distinguishing features being heavy/contrasting black/grey stripes and chequerboard patter; elongated abdomen with large, round genital capsule; red eyes :)
