Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Bibio anglicus (female)?

I have keyed these in the past and they always came out at
Bibio anglicus but just wondered if everyone else agrees? :) Seen in southern England - 26/4/2008

Another redish female Bibionidae is Bibio hortulanus, but the wings of Bibio hortulanus is much more milky I guess..
This Bibio got really darkened coloured wings.

I will have to get some better photos of this species because I am sure it isn't
hortulanus - in specimens I have here (collected on other days) the base of r4+5 is a little shorter than r-m and in Freeman & Lane (1985) it says the base of r4+5 should be longer than r-m.
I'll try to take some today, if I see them :D

It is more than likely to be anglicus: hortulanus does not occur before, say, may 10 th.
Moreover, it looks like anglicus, but you are right, we need to see the wing venation.
