Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Diptera pupa?

The pupa in the attached image was found in East Lincs on 17.04.2008.
It was just below the surface of loose sandy soil close to turf.
(And, just in case it is significant, not near faecal matter!)
I'm intrigued by the two little 'horns'.

Does it look familiar to anyone?
It is being cared for in a moist well ventilated container.

Is Syrphidae, Volucella a possibility?
There were ground nesting solitary bees (Andrena fulva and A.nigroaenea) in the area.
