I saw this on 2nd August 2005, at the top of Butser Hill, Hampshire, UK, but I did not then look carefully at the photos!
Now I see it has hairy eyes, and seems in all respects to be Scaeva dignota, but I did not know that this species had reached the UK.
Is the identification correct?

Guess I can't prove it without the specimen, but back in 2005 I thought it was just some odd Eupeodes.

Maybe we will get some extra support :)
Dignota will not be new to the UK though...
