Hi,
Here is another sunbathing syrphid from our arboretum, this time sitting on a Rhododendron leaf together with a small specimen of probably
Pollenia. Could it belong to
Cheilosia?
Thanks, Sundew

Scutellum is yellowish so I'd expect somewhere in Syrphini, not
Cheilosia.

Looking at the dusting of the scutum, the pronounced nose... I think it's a very dark
E. balteatus. But the light is really really bad, sorry.

Well, we have longed for a bright spring sun to shine, but its result is bad photos... I have my doubts as to
E. balteatus regarding habit and shape of abdomen, but who knows - thanks for trying an ID in any case!

Shape of abdomen is strange, yes. Could be an intersexe...?
