Dolichovespula arenaria, worker. New Brunswick, Canada.
The hypodermic needle tip, a bit blunt, is from a 1mL syringe.

EDIT: The hypodermic needle is 0.5mm diameter

Impressive needle. I hate being stung by wasps. They have my respect :p

This is nothing comparing the female mutillid sting... :o the bite of this kind of wasps is among the most painful (ok. it lasts just a very few minutes. :) of the insects.
